Can A Hiatal Hernia Cause Swallowing Difficulty?

I have a problem swallowing everything, and the test I just had showed a problem in the lower part of my esophagus. The barium pill stopped just before going into my stomach. Could a hiatal hernia cause this? I also underwent a stress test because of sudden, debilitating pain I get occasionally in my back, thru to my stomach area. My heart tested out fine. The cardiologist suggested I may have a hiatal hernia. I am over 50, and worked in a farm and feed store so lifting products over 50 lbs. was a daily activity.

Hello,

Hiatal hernia can cause excessive gastric reflux and sometimes dysphagia. It's recommended for you to avoid hot and spicy food, eat cold and food at room temperature.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
