Can Xanax Be Taken By A Child Before Tooth Extraction?
My grand daughter is 7 yrs old and 72 lbs...she is having an impacted tooth removed tomorrow and the surgeon wants her to take .25mg Xanax tonight and another 1 hr before her surgery tomorrow and she will be put out by anesthetic...Does that sound safe for a child ??...I weigh over 200 lbs and that is my dosage prn...
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain Xanax contains active ingredient Alprazolam and it is an anti-anxiety medication.. It is advised to your grand daughter as children are less co-operative during dental treatment and can become anxious and through tantrums during treatment especially extraction.
That is why the dentist has prescribed her to take Xanax before extraction..
The recommended dose is safe and can be given to her .. Anesthesia given will be local and will only numb the area of extraction as has no problem to be given after Xanax..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
