Can Venlafaxine And Excedrin Be Taken Together?

My Dr started me on 37.5 MG venlafaxine today for depression. I took one tablet at 4pm. I have a migraine (I could feel it coming on all day) I took 2 excedrin for migraine at 2pm. Would it be safe to take 50mg sumatriptan tablet now for my headache?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

As Venlafaxine and Sumatriptan both increase serotonin level, so we generally try to avoid using them both. So if an alternative painkiller like Paracetamol or Naproxen can work for your pain in would suggest you should not use Sumatriptan. Yes, it's not absolutely contraindicated, you can use it with caution if needed anyhow.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
