Can Thyronorm Be Taken For A Long Duration?

I am 30 years of age. I have been advised by doctor to have 100 mcg thyronorm tablets. I want to know that if I once start this tablet, whether I will have to take them for whole of my life and also is there any side effects in long run. will the dosage keep increasing due to the body becoming prone to the effect of the tablet?

Hello Dear

Thanks for writing to us

Thronorm can be taken lifelong and it is given for longer durations usually except for gestational Hypothyroidism.

Taking this medicine for a lifetime is obvoiusly a cause of concern for the patients.
There are no established side effects of the drugs but patients complain of weakness, bone and joint pains and low calcium levels in long run.
If you have not started taking it yet, you can substitute it with Ayurvedic drugs which are harmless and safe.
Ayurvedic substitutes are available in the market but can be prescribed only after proper consultation

Hope that Helps
Thanks
