Can Temazepam Cause Fainting?

My 101 year old mother has been taking 15mg of temazepam for many years. she has fallen four times during the night in the last two months. I feel this medication is causing her falls when she gets up at night. She has dementia but other than vitamins and the sleep med she doesn t take anything. would it be wise to reduce the med to 7.5? if so, how?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear Greetings
Regarding your mother fainting attack for the past 2months following an intake of temazepam I am suggesting that this is possibly due to temazepam reason because it changes the consciousness of individual but the fainting episode is possibly caused by the following differential diagnosis
Acute vestibulitis
Cerebrovascular accident
heart failure
Cerebellar disorder
Encephalitis
Meningitis
In view of this let her do a
CT scan
Lumber puncture
Blood culture
ECG
meanwhile please let her see a neurologist specialist for further clinical assessment and adequate drug prescription
I hope this helps
