Can Senna Be Taken While Suffering From Chronic Kidney Disease?

I have stage 3 chronic kidney disease. Tomorrow I have surgery and will be on Percoset (Oxycodone/Acetaminiphin) for about 10 days. I normally would take a stool softener (docusate sodum), but I don t want to because of the sodium. Is Senna a safe choice?

Hello,

Generally before bowel surgeries these type of purgatives are used to empty bowels. In your case because of chances of electrolyte imbalance, osmotic purgatives are not preffered.
Senna is stimulant purgative and will not affect electrolytes. It is safe to use it once in your case.

Thanks.
