Can Ridol Tablet Be Given To An Infant For Severe Stomach Upset?

hi my 8 months baby is having severe stomach upset almost she had 19-20 watery,green,curd like stools,Dr.has advised me to give him half ridol tablet and i have given it.But when i read in MIMS that ridol tab is not prescribed for children less than 4 yrs so i am worried now...something wrong should not happen please help

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

You are 100% right - It contains Loperamide and should not be used in kids.

Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.
Unless there is blood in the motion there is no need for antibiotics or cultures. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic associated diarrhoea. I suggest you use zinc supplements & ORS. For vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron 0.15mg/kg/dose thrice a day, 30 minutes before feeds.
