Can Phenazopyridine Be Taken For UTI?

I have taken yesterday and today an OTC med for Urinary Health because I felt a UTI coming on, Ellura, my Urologist recommended it, I am down where the Hurricane was in So Tx, and my hygene suffered due to no water and no power. It did not help so I want to take a prescription I have left over Phenazopyrid 100 mg, it make your pee orange but gives some relief to the symptoms, I was worried about taking them both. It it ok?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

Phenazopyridine is not an antibiotic, it is urinary analgesic which relieve pain only.
Co-trimoxazole or norfloxacin are first choice drugs for UTI.
Both are prescription drugs so you need to get it prescribed.
Drink plenty of water.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards
Dr. Hiren
