Can Percocet Be Taken During Pregnancy?

I am currently 36 week pregnant as of today. Through out my pregnancy I have taken Percocet but I go days without it and when I do take it it s right before bed and NEVER more than 5mg. I get severe migraines and back pains so it helps me calm down and to sleep better. I have never experienced withdrawal, but I am very worried that my baby might experience withdrawal which scares me.. I am done taking them completely and I didn t know if maybe that would help also..

OB and GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Taking oxycodone while pregnant can produce many side effects on the fetus, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy.

I suggest you replace your medicine by Paracetamol.

Paracetamol has been used routinely during all stages of pregnancy to reduce a high temperature and for pain relief. There's no evidence of any harmful effects on an unborn baby.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Naira Jahangir, OB and GYN Specialist
