Can Percocet And Nucynta Be Taken Together?

I have chronic low back pain, and have had anterior lumbar bone fusion at the L4-L5 level. That eliminated most of my leg pain, but pain persists in my low back and hips. I ve been on Percocet 10/325 4x a day for about a year, and just today began nucynta er 50mg 2xday. My question is, are there any adverse reactions between the two meds?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Tapentadol and oxycodone hydrochloride, the active ingridients, of the tablets that you are using for your chronic pain, are both opioids used for moderate to severe pain for an extended period. Generally they are not taken together.
Opioids have the risk of addiction, and risk of other side effects such as sleep apnea. The risk of the side effects increases if you use them both.
You can use take these medicines together only if your doctor told you to do so.
You have to use these tablets correctly, with precaution and don't stop taking these medicines, without asking the doctor that prescribed you before.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
