Can Nasonex Nasal Spray Cause Headache?

My son (15) is complaining of a headache on the top of his head. I took his blood pressure and it read 133/88. I gave him two 80 mg aspirin. When he lays down it goes away, but when he gets up it comes back. It hurts when he tilts his head to his shoulder (either side). Also when he drinks water it reduces the pain. Could this be a temporary condition? He takes Nasonex nasal spray and singular for allergys daily. Could this be a side effect?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern. Nasonex nasal spray is composed of 'Mometasone', which is similar to naturally occurring steroidal hormones (hydrocortisone/cortisone) produced in the body.

It is indicated for use in the treatment of Allergic rhinitis, Nasal polyps, Asthma prophylaxis and Allergic skin conditions. Commonly encountered side effects with its use include a headache, swelling of nose, throat, and sinuses, bone and joint pain, bleeding and irritation of nose and acne.

Some of the side effects would gradually reduce by taking supportive care. However, consult your doctor promptly if any of the above symptoms are experienced on a regular basis and becomes bothersome.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
