Can Meloxicam Be Taken With Amlodipine?

My 88 year old mother is to start taking 15mg meloxicam tomorrow for pain from fractures in her hip and pelvis. Neglected to remind the PA that she has high blood pressure and takes amlodopine daily and also has a pacemaker. Are there any contraindications with meloxicam and these conditions? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by reducing prostaglandins that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

When taken along with Amlodipine it may reduce the BP lowering effects of Amlodipine which can increase her BP.

She may need a dose adjustment of these medications and her BP to be measured more often.

Hope this answers your query.
