Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI. I am 39 years old. 15 years ago, I had my gallbladder removed. I never get sick (haven t missed work in 6 years). Recently, I have started taking Melatonin at night. I just had blood work completed and my ALT was slightly elevated at 74 U/L (normal says 21-72). My alkaline phosphate is low at 31 and has been low for 5 years. My diet has not been good the past month and I have started experiencing itching at night for 20 minutes. It seems to be better when I keep carbs low as I have just started doing (lost 4.5 lbs in 2 days). So...can Melatonin cause any of these problems specifically elevated liver enzyme. I should also note my cholesterol is normal as are my other liver markers. thank you
meltonin is taken for stopping smoking and treat insmnea. no they donot cause any such symptoms. all other test result are normal. you will have digation problem due to lack of bile. can take substitute for its supplement.can consult gastroenterologist.
