Can Lorazepam Aggravate Tinnitus?

Can lorazepam elevate ringing in my ears. I have tinnitus, and I may need help getting to sleep. I am unclear about using lorazepam to help me sleep. I see reports online of people who believe drugs like lorazepam can possibly make ear ringing worse. There are also reports, online, of the possibility of an ototoxic reaction which may be able to create a permanent tinnitus condition. email: YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is unlikely to aggravate tinnitus. Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine commonly prescribed to treat anxiety, insomnia and other conditions.

Its common side effects include drowsiness, muscle weakness, amnesia, slurred speech, fatigue, and gait disturbances. It is not known to cause tinnitus and also does not seem to aggravate it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
