Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can I use a CPAP Machine to help my COPD. I have read that a B-PAP unit might be better because they provide more pressure when you inhale and less when you exhale. It seems like I m always needing more air. I only have 30% lung capacity. Thank you for your time in this matter, Roy
Thanks for your consultation at HCM! I have gone through your case and as your physician I totally understand your health concern... If I will be your treating physician I would love to ask you about your weight and BMI....are you obese??? Do you feel extremely sleepy during day time?? Do you have got any heart issues related??? COPD itself is not an indication for Cpap or Bpap....you better consult pulmonologist regarding it... Research studies have shown a significant increase in life expectancy in COPD pts. who have got Home Oxygenation....and one parameter that will show the prognosis of COPD is peak expiratory flow rate which you can easily measured in your home if you have peak flow meter... Last but not the least do get the pneumococcal and H . infulenzae vaccination done on yearly basis before winter... Hope your query is appropriately addressed if you still have any feel free to ask... Stay blessed Regards Dr Saad Sultan
