Can Gabapentin Help Treat Pain In The Upper Left Quadrant Of The Brain?

I had a severe brain injury last Oct. Three skull fractures, two brain bleeds, one internal, one external. Along with other leftover symptoms I have severe pain in the upper left quadrant of the brain, upon bending, coughing, even moving at times. In the last few days, it has been terribly often. It s not like a headache, Just severe short-termed pain. Also, this area of the brain is where the brain damage is. My Internist said I should go back on the Gabapentin. It seemed to help before. I hope it does now. Is gabentin just for pain or, hopefully, to calm this issue down?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Gabapentin would help you with the neurological pain. If you have sustained brain injury, the damaged cells cannot be healed. You may get better if there is associated bleeding. But that is because this bleeding slowly resolves. The damaged tissue cannot be repaired.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Feel free to contact me for further information as needed.

Best wishes.
