Can Gabapentin Be Taken In Place Of Tramadol?

My primary care doctor just my pain meds from tramadol to gabapentin. I have chronic pain in my lumbar and sciatica due to disc, arthritis and bone sour problems. I ve been getting steroid injections for ten years on a somewhat regular basis, normally every four months, and they provide the best relief but are only effective for about four weeks. Am not sure this different drug will work as well as tramadol.

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM.
I have read and understood your concern.
Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic drug that is well indicated in the management of severe chronic/neurologic pains. It may help to control pain that is too intense for tramadol to control.Give this drug a try.
Hope this will help. You may write back if more concerns.
Wish you good health
