Can Gabapentin Be Taken For Hot Flashes?

My OBGYN has prescribed Gabapentin 300 MG for menopausal symptoms. I m concerned because everything I read indicates this medication is for seizures. I see nothing telling me it s right for menopausal symptoms: hot flashes, sweating profusely which then turns to cold chills. Why did he prescribe this med? My dosage is one tablet daily at bedtime and he will increase dosage to 2x daily if this med helps. I was previously on estrotest until very recently after a knee replacement followed by laser surgery for kidney stones. Thanks for your response.
