Can Flexeril 10mg Be Given To Relieve Pain From Root Canal Infection?

My daughter, 28 yrs. old has taken 2 aleve liquid gels(440)mg and is still crying with an infection from a root canal. Can I give her a 10mg of flexeril (cyclobenzapr) Pain just isn't letting up, she did start on penicillin 3 days ago Thank you, Jeff Joyce

Thanks for writing to us..

It looks like she has a re-infection in her root canal treated tooth that is causing pain with a high possibility of abscess formation.
Flexeril will not be appropriate for this kind of pain condition..
It will be better to give her stronger painkillers like Ketorolac or Tramadol as Flexeril is a muscle relaxant and will not help much with root canal related pain..
Also an x ray of the tooth should be done and if there is infection then antibiotics like Amoxicillin will also be added.
Also re-root canal treatment has to be done for resolving the pain permanently.
Do cool compresses on her cheek too and apply clove oil over the painful tooth..
