General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Allergies can cause a sore throat by causing post-nasal drip, which, as you suspect, may be the case for you, especially with the history of allergies, and if you had nasal congestion and sneezing as well.

Claritin is a good choice; its effect lasts more than 24 hours, so you can take it either in the morning or night and it should work just as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
