Can Cefprozil Be Taken Instead Of Cefpodoxime Proxetil For A Tooth Abscess?
I am in China and have a tooth abscess. The dentist prescribed Cefpodoxime proxetil the last time and it worked. However, this time the pharmacy was out and the pharmacists assured me Cefprozil would kill the infection. The problem is the dentists are all closed for Spring Festival, so I must wait 5 days. Are those medicines suitable in your opinion?
As per your complain if you have a dental Abscess then taking Cefprozil that is second generation Cephalosporin can help to some extent to reduce Infection but it is not a drug of choice in case of tooth abscess..
You can talk to your pharmacist and can take antibiotics like Amoxicillin, Augmentin etc along with anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and Serratiopeptidases.. As these are prescription drugs you can also get them prescribed in Emergency room..
But all the medication can give it temporary relief and for permanent resolution you can consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and x-ray of tooth can be done..
In case if tooth can be saved then Root Canal Treatment can help followed by antibiotics and painkillers..
In case of gross decay extraction is advisable..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
