Can COPD Cause Shortness Of Breath?

my wife was a long time smoker. She turns 55 in October. She has now quit due to a diagnosis of emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Shortness of breath with even the slightest excertions. My question is this, is this not COPD? From what I read, these symptoms fall into that category. She thinks she don't have COPD, I disagree. Thank you for your input. Hello.
Thank you for contacting HCM.

I have gone through your question and I will try my best to give you a satisfactory answer.

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease) consists of two components....chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Thus if your wife has been diagnosed with these two conditions, she is suffering from COPD. The two piece of information that you have provided in your question i.e long time smoker and shortness of breath on minimal exertion are consistent with the features of COPD.

I would recommend your wife consult a local physician for detailed clinical evaluation and further treatment accordingly.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns.
Wishing you and your wife good health.
