My son is almost 13. He takes Claritin children s once a day for allergies. Hw has been bothered by muscle/back pain and dr said if really bad he can take benedryl to help as muscle relaxer. Just wanted to make sure he can take in addition to the claratin? Thank you Kim

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Claritin (loratadine) and benedryl (diphenhydramine) are both antihistamines used for allergy. Only difference is benedryl has sedating effect also. It is not given as a pain killer or muscle relaxant. These both shouldn't be given together also. You can give ibuprofen (motrin) for muscle/back pain.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
