Can Benadryl Be Given To Induce Sleep After Suffering A Concussion?

My son has a concussion that happened 7 days ago. He was hospitalized but release after several days of monitoring. We are doing all the recommended recovery methods suggested by the doctor, especially lots of sleep. However, it is becoming difficult for him to sleep because he is sleeping so much. Can I give him Benadryl?

Hello.

I'd suggest melatonin rather than the benadryl for this problem.

While beneadryl might be OK it can cause excessive drowsiness and it would be best in a post-concussion situation not to have that side effect
