Can Amplodipine Be Discontinued While Treating Angina, Leg Edema And Discomfort?
I want to stop taking amlodipine 5mg due to leg oedema. I have never had high BP but was put on it for angina. (Also bisoprolol 7.5 mg). My BP is around 115/55 and I have had no angina for 2 years. I can t ask my doc about this for several days but legs so uncomfortable I want to stop amlodipine right now. Is this safe and should I halve the 5mg tabs first?
The leg edema is secondary to side effect of Amlodipine which is a calcium channel blocker agent used for a variety of purpose. As currently BP is under control, you have to stop further doses of Amlodipine straight way. Discuss alternative as ACE inhibitor like Lisinopril or others for BP regulation on long run basis.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
