Can amox-clav 875-125 and smz-tmp ds 800-160 be taken at same time. Have bronchitis and kidney stone with infection. Have taken four doses (one a day) of smz-tmp. Finish smz, then take amox? Or switch to amox then finish smz? Or take at same time? Can t get up with my doc.

Hello,

I've gone through your query but I've got some questions that were left unanswered by your text. Did your doctor prescribe both to you? This is an unusual combination.

Besides that taking antibiotics for kidney stone without infection is not indicated! If you're taking them without a doctor's prescription then my recommendation is to avoid doing so until a doctor can examine you first.

Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid is appropriate for both respiratory tract and urinary tract infections unless the implicated pathogen is resistant to it.

If you've been prescribed an antibiotic for bronchitis and the renal stone (colic?) has just occurred then you don't need to take any extra antibiotics.

Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid is OK for the urinary tract (not the best choice but still OK to use in most cases) and having a colic is not an indication for antibiotic treatment.

If you've had a feverish urinary tract infection then perhaps a quinolone might be a better choice. TMP-SMZ 800/160 is OK for some respiratory tract and urinary tract infections as well on its own.

We usually prescribe only one of those drugs, so you'd better stick to what your doctor has already prescribed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
