Can Alprazolam Be Taken To Control Extreme Anxiety?

Hello doctor.. I had been on escitalopram , clonazepam (0.25) and propanolol(20mg) for 3/4 months. I had (or have) anxiety disorder. I am a student of competitive exams and feel a lot of pressure. My prblm started when I failed in few exams last yr.. i ws feeling good with these meds.. but these medicines were hampering my memory so i quit all of them a few months ago.Now I am on thyroxine 25 mg: my TSH reading ws 9 or 10... I still face anxiety but I hv decided to face it without medicine cos that is better for my civil services studies.. but can I take alprazolam or alzolam at the night before exams? Cos I cant sleep due to anxiety on exams nights.. will it keep me calm during exam? Please suggest me and if i am right than please advise me correct medicine with dosage...

I would recommend you to take thyroxine regularly for your thyroid problem. Keeping the TSH levels in normal range is highly important. Please do take the medicines as prescribed and have a regular follow-up.
I appreciate your resolve to tackle anxiety without any medications. For that to happen, I would recommend continuous cognitive behavioural therapy to my patients when medications are stopped.
And you can take alprazolam during high stress conditions. The dosage is 0.25 mg. I would advice you to have complete sleep after you have consumed alprazolam to avoid day time sleepiness. And you need to visit a doctor to get the prescription for alprazolam and you need to take it only as instructed at the specified doses. You can also avoid taking alprazolam by following the cognitive behavioural therapy and applying all the counselling points in your lifestyle.
