Can Allopurinol And Colchicine Be Taken Together For Gout?

My husband is having a gout flare up on vacation. He takes Allopurinol twice daily. He has Colchicine that he has taken for the flare up. Should he take both of these meds? It has been 36 hrs since the flare up began. It subsided while laying down but has now flared up to intense pain.
