Can Aleve Be Taken For Treatment Of Throat Ache?

I have a swollen tonsil and the doctor thought I had an abces after a few pokes and no puss he said to take clindamycin hcl 300mg along with methylprednisolone 4mg. The swelling went down some but I still have severe pain when swallowing. Can I take aleve for the pain or is it not good to mix those meds?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have throat ache which seems to be viral fever or flu. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take anti-inflammatory medications such as Aleve for times being for throat-ache. Take light diet and drink plenty of fluids, have proper rest. Do warm saline gargles and do not eat spicy food. Your symptoms will resolve in 3-4 days. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper examination and prescription. Go for blood tests as well.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
