Can Albuterol And Promethazine-codeine Oral Be Taken Together?
I have been prescribed albuterol inh as well as promethazine codeine.. To my understanding albuterol has minor stimulant properties as codeine has depressant properties. Is this safe for me to take together? I m sure the doctor or pharmacist would ve said something if otherwise but I just wanna make sure because some website says there s a moderate interaction
It is not safe to take albuterol and promethazine-codeine together. There is no documented harmful interaction between albuterol and codeine however, codeine acts by suppressing cough which may interfere with bronchodilator effect of albuterol hence it should be avoided while on albuterol. Codeine may also interact with promethazine causing dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Moreover, taking albuterol together with promethazine can increase the risk of arrhythmia (an irregular heart rhythm) that may be serious and potentially life-threatening.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
