Breast Implants Removed, Replaced, Sutures For Drain Removed, Gurgling Sounds While Lying Down. Due To Blood Which Didn't Drain Out?

Had my breast implants removed and replaced 5 days ago. During my hospital stay, my drain came off both for the left and right. The sutures (for the drain) were removed and it s not bleeding anymore. However, I m hearing gurggling sounds when I lay down could this be from the blood that didn t drain out what should I do?

Hello
I would be pleased to answer your question .

If you can hear gurgling sounds it is surely due to the shift of the fluid accumulated . However it may not be due to the Blood gurgling for sure . If the Bleeding has stopped and you have no swelling , pain or discoloration in the area there is nothing to worry .
However , since the drains did come out during the hospital stay , I would suggest you should visit a physician or your GP or surgeon who will auscultate and examine the area .
Thanks and Take care

Hi Daryl,

The gurgling sounds can be due to some amount of retained blood and fluids. It should go away on its own. If you develop gross swelling or pain in the breasts, please get back to your operating surgeon. If it not troublesome, you can go for the regular follow up and get it checked.

Get well soon.

Hi daryl.slee
Thanks for posting your query on healthcare magic
When the breast implants were removed and replaced the most probable cause of this is that saline implants were placed and not silicon implants .The merits and demerits of both must have been discussed with you by your plastic surgeon .Few patients do complain of this sensation of gurgling with saline implants .If silicone implants were placed then ill suggest that you contact your surgeon immediately about this concern. An ultrasonography can be done to rule out any collection remaining which may not have been drained by the drains placed in situ
i hope i have answered all your queries
do post again if any further doubts remain
God bless

General Surgeon Dr. Swapnendu Sekhar Ghosh's  Response
Hi,
THESE SOUNDS ARE COMMON WITH IMPLANTS.AND THEY ARE OF VARIOUS NATURE.
THE GURGLING SOUNDS IN IMMEDIATE POST OPERATIVE PERIOD MOST COMMONLY MAY BE DUE TO FLUID AIR IN THE SPACE SURROUNDING THE IMPLANTS.
NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT IT .THE SOUNDS USUALLY DISAPPEAR IN FEW WEEKS TIME .
YOU MAY DISCUSS WITH YOUR SURGEON AND BE TENSION FREE.
