Bladder Leakage When Coughing, Light Headedness

Hello, I am a little concerned, whenever I cough, I have heavy bladder leakage and more importantly I feel like I am going to pass out, I get very lightheaded, I just started to have this experience for 2 days now!! Is there anything I should be concerned about? It kind of scares me.
Thank you

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
If I would be your treating doctor for this case of incontinence of urine I would come up with these possibilities , these includes.
1 Diabetes , diagnosis can be confirmed by blood examination for HBA 1 C & blood sugar level for three consecutive days.In diabetic cases particularly obese I have noted this type of symptoms.
2 Anemia is one of the most important reason which not only develops incontinence of urine but also develops dizziness. Diagnosis can be confirmed by hemoglobin level examination.
3 Relaxation of sphincter of urethra during coughing , sneezing . Sometimes due to unknown reason sphincter relaxes when abdominal pressure increase ( due to coughing or sneezing ) . This is very common feature .
In my opinion first of all consult a physician and get his opinion regarding diabetes.
Good luck. Dr. HET

Hi!

Welcome to HCM!

Bladder leakage while coughing is a common medical problem among females called as stress incontinence. It is produced by any intra abdominal straining and is thought to be due to weakness in the sphincter muscle and the pelvic floor muscles that support the organs in your pelvis and abdomen.

Pregnancy, childbirth by vaginal delivery that can weaken the pelvic floor or obesity may be contributory in stress incontinence.

Stress urinary incontinence is generally managed by non-drug methods such as:lifestyle changes to reduce pressure on your bladder such as losing weight and pelvic floor exercises .

A medicine called duloxetine hydrochloride can reduce the frequency of leaking for women with moderate or severe Stress Incontinence. If these treatments don't work, only then your doctor may refer you for surgery.

Lightheadedness however is a common complaint in people having low blood pressure. When the blood pressure is too low, not enough oxygen-rich blood is being delivered to the brain, and its function can be affected.

Low blood pressure may be the result of an underlying illness or disease, or it may be a normal physiologic condition. Some common reasons for low blood pressure include the following:Anemia ,dehydration, Fever also can cause a significant amount of water loss due to increased metabolic rate and excessive sweating as the body tries to cool itself.

hope this helps you!take care
