Battling Heart Disease In Old Age, Low Blood Pressure, Fainting. Prognosis?
My dad (80 yrs old) has been battling heart diesase for about 15 years. He always comes back strong and worked until last February. We just brought him home form the hospital with hospice. He only has about 8 - 10 percent of his heart that is functioning. He has trouble with fluid buildup and was on a large amount of fluid meds. He cannot stand up without his blood pressure getting exteremly low and passing out. How long can he survive like this?
It is difficult to assess life expectancy in an individual instance. It depends upon several factors – Ejection Fraction is just one of them... Sorry to say that 10% is rather low and means a few months but there are other factors - valves’ integrity and function / wall of the chambers / arrhythmia, their nature and frequency / kidney and lung function, other co-morbidities / response to medicines ...and so on... The treating doctor alone can suggest based on his assessment of the situation.
Take care Wishing speedy recovery God bless Good luck
