Bad Dreams, Upsetting Sleep After Having Met XL. Can I Change Medicine Without Any Side Effect?

I am a male, 68 years old, and was on Prazopress XL 2.5 mg / Cardura for BP and BHP for nearly 2 years. BHP is no longer there now and my Cardiologist prescribed Met XL 25 mg and Atorva for BP and high triglycerides. Since I started taking Met XL 25 mg about a month back, not a night passes without bad dreams, upsetting my sleep. Is there any way I can stop this medicine and switch to something else without its side effects? Please note that I am also prone to allergic cough which I suffer from most of the time.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Met XL is a beta blocker.
Beta blocker should NOT be stopped suddenly.
It has to be tapered - step wise - over a period of time.

You can switch to another selective beta blocker, it it is a must.

You can take a medicine from a different class altogether.
There are several classes of drugs and several drugs in each class - the choice is wide.

Discuss with your doctor.
You may have a second opinion too.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
