Are Seizure Like Symptoms, Breathlessness And Concussions Normal In An Alcohol Addict?

I have a friend who is a drinker and a smoker. He has had several concussions. In the last little while he has been passing out quite often and injuring himself by falling. He displays seizure like symptoms during the episode which usually start with a very hard cough to where he has trouble catching his breath. he doesn t remember the episodes and is usually very disoriented and weak after. His personality changes also. He does not eat during the day but does drink beer off and on during the day. When he eats something later in the evening he seems to feel better and snaps out of it.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello,

No, all these symptoms are not normal. They are suggestive of hepatic encephalopathy. Better to take him to the hospital and get done the clinical examination and start treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
