my daughter has been taking keppra for over 2 years 100mg bid, she has been seizure free for 2 years and her doctor said she could taper off, after 1 week she had a seizure, he started with cutting dose in half, could the seizure be from to quick of a taper

Hi,

Yes, the repeated seizure seems to be from quick tapper. One has to be very slow weaning the habit forming dose say 3/4 of dose, followed by 3/4 of the dose, reduced to 1/4th of it. The distance between each step being 2 weeks. After increase the distance between minimum doses to 3 weeks, 4 weeks one month & so on till you have a seizure free 6 months. To be careful, avoid triggering factors for 2 years more helps in complete elimination.
