General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The condition of sore shin with redness and tenderness indicates most likely cellulitis condition through some sort of bacterial infection (most likely staph aureus in usual cases). There is best way to approach your doc for guidance of therapy, however as you are not in a position to contact your doc, I would suggest following:
- Local application of ice over the affected part
- Keep the leg elevated over 3 pillows
- Avoid prolong weight bearing, tight shoes or foot wears
- Control of blood sugar
- Avoid tight clothings as jeans

Get prescription of antibiotics as cephalosporin or others at earliest to prevent further complications and spread of infection.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
