Are Painful Spasms With Cramps Indicative Of Ovarian Cyst Rupture?

Hi there. I believe I am having symptoms of an ovarian cyst rupture. After intercourse I began having immense pain via cramping. Then it began to subside with gas, but has returned with sharp shooting pain that makes me feel as though I m breaking in two and making my back spasm. I m 22 years old and I have already had surgery in the past to remove cysts. Should I try to wait out the pain or seek medical attention?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the pain involving lower abdomen after intercourse does not suffice to think of ovarian cyst rupture in any manner on clinical point of view. There can be various possible reasons as:
- Non specific colic (most of the cases)
- Twisting of ovarian pedicle
- Excess muscle cramps following vigorous sex activities or deep penile penetration with force

Kindly relax and do rest for a couple of hours and wait for the resolution of the pain before approaching an ER visit.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
