Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

From your symptoms it seems that both of your knee joints have undergone osteoarthritic changes. These are basically age related degenerative changes in the weight bearing joints like knee and is characterized by joint pain and stiffness. Upon movement the stiffness gradually relives. Sometimes application of hot pads can make the movement possible. The treatment options include pain killers, hot fomentation, lubricating agents like glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin , dycerin, etc and some life style modifications and physiotherapy. Right now you can start taking Tablet Tylenol ( Acetaminophen) Double Strength after breakfast and after dinner. It is suggested to add calcium supplements 500mg each twice daily. This will take care of your mild symptoms in 3-5 days. You can start with walking and aerobic fitness exercises, quadriceps strengthening, patellar tapping, lateral heel wedges, etc- under the guidance of your physiotherapist. A Big No to Stair case, squatting postures, any chair which has a sitting platform lower than your knees. Knee brace can also be used for an earlier and prolonged relief. In severe cases intra articular injections of steroids and hyaluronic acid may be needed after consultation with your orthopedics. I also encourage you to consult an orthopedician for physical examination. A few blood tests, X-rays of the knee, CT / MRI scans of the knee will help us diagnose the condition and help us in choosing the best approach of treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Appx I year ago I lift my leg to step over a baby gate and I got a terrible pain in my hip. The pain eased up but I was unable to walk for a few days and then walked only with a cane for a few months and that was with a lot of pain. I can now walk without a cane but never have a pain free day and I limp most of the time. I had an xray which just showed arthritis. My leg aches, the muscle hurt to touch them and sometimes swell or get small lump like places, this is daily. Also my knee gives me a lot of trouble, pain, stinging burning pain.

My daughter is 13 years old, height - 5 3 and weight 53kg; about 4 months back she started getting some pain in her left foot near the ankle. Dr prescribed rest and pain killers, with no relief and swelling in ankle, he put a cast for a month after doing an MRI. 25 days after the cast was put, she developed swelling and pain in her left knee also. Took her to another doc, who says she has oligoarticular arthritis, advised blood tests. Rh - 1.14, haemoglobin- 12.2, ESR- 27. He started naprosyn 500 twice a day, sazo 2 tabs twice a day, wysolone 5mg once a day, folvite 5 once day - mon to fri, rantac once a day, shelcal once a day and injection folitrax 50mg - 24 units or 15mg once a week subcutaneous. What i want to know is: 1. Is she actually suffering from arthritis? 2. If yes, is her medicine and dose correct? 3. Is this condition reversible? Can she be completely cured? 4. Is this rheumatoid arthritis? Thanks a ton for your help!

I had meniscus repair and was told to put weight on it the day of surgery, I had no crutches.and fell getting out of the car, extreme pain and swelling occurred and had to be drained, it was fluid and blood mixed. did I reinjure my knee, doctor never told me what he found .Since, popping and a locked knee occurred. It feels unstable. 3 months of PT and there is still some swelling and pain at bending. He wants to do steroids but I declined and am getting a second opinion to see whats going on inside my knee. It gets stiff thru the day. Could it just be arthritis inflammation.
