Are Leukocytes And Blood In My Urine Related To Kidney Function?

Thought I had a kidney Infection. Went to the doc. I had leukocytes and blood in my urine. Was put on Cipro. Took it for the full 5 days. Now I don t feel Ill. But the kidney pain has gotten worse. I’ve been checking my urine with Dipsticks. They keep showing I have protein and traces of blood in urine and NO leukocytes. If i have to pee, or after I pee, I get kidney pain. If i palpate my kidney it shoots pain down my ureter and into my bladder. OH and I had a blood test that was completely normal. I also have a HUGE amount of sediment in my urine. (And a past HX of a stone obstruction in right ureter)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you had a kidney infection and it does not feel better after 5 days of antibiotics, you should see your doctor again. Kidney infection needs 10-14 days of antibiotics to completely heal but the patient should start to feel better within the first few days of starting the antibiotics.

You may need to do a urine culture to determine the sensitivity of the bacteria to antibiotics and especially to ciprofloxacin, which you are also using.

This test will determine further treatment in your case. Meanwhile, try to drink plenty of fluids to flush your urinary system and help with the infection.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
