Are Knees And Legs Soreness Caused Due To Heavy Workouts?

Hi, I am having moderate to severe swelling in my lower leg and ankle/top of foot area. I did not hurt my legs/feet in any way. I work out daily and on Friday I squatted a lot of weight at the gym and my knees are sore/tender. Could this be why my legs/ankles are swollen? I have noticed this symptom on 2 or 3 occasions in the past month but do not recall lifting heavy weights on the other occasions.

Hi,

The edema in your ankle could be due to excessive squatting. and as your knees are sore so would be your ankles and that is contributing to the ankle edema aka swelling. I would recommend you to elevate your legs and avoid exercise for a day or two.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
