Are Flutters In Abdomen And Back Pain Signs Of Pregnancy?

Hello. My boyfriend and I had used the pull out method. however it was two times within 6 hours. According to the ovulation calculator this happened on the day where i was most fertile. 1 week after I felt very bloated or full, tired and cramping( i thought it was because my period was coming, I am usually always on time for my period, and usually always get tender breasts) this time I was late by 10 days then i started what i thought was my period for 3 days, then it stopped. my breasts were not tender at all, I feel weird movement in my lower abs on and off. Bloating, achy all over, back pain, i feel really hungry but once i get to the food i can only seem to eat a little bit then i cant stomach eating more, I usually take one bowl movement a day, not I am taking several along with peeing alot. Most of all its hard to explain the "full" feeling I have in my lower abs, i was gassy that first week, but now i just feel full. I feel like I am gaining weight (not officially confirmed tho) I have been really short tempered with some people, and most of all I have just been feeling exhausted with headaches the last couple days, and so then the morning I got my "period" I took HPT and it was negative. so I waited 3 days and took another one. Negative again. I just consulted a doctor and he said there is no possible way that I am pregnant (he said because it showed up negative after my expected period date.) however, I have known several people who havent found out they were pregnant until even a couple months in. whats going on ?

Hello, and i hope I can help you today.

If you have gotten your period and have had negative pregnancy tests, and especially if you are trying to prevent pregnancy (withdrawal is about 85 percent effective in preventing pregnancy) there is no way you can be pregnant. The most common sign of pregnancy is missing your period. However, pregnancy symptoms vary widely between women, and many of the symptoms we usually associate with pregnancy like bloating, breast tenderness, nausea, fatigue, spotting and mood changes can happen in cases of hormonal irregularities as well as pregnancy.

It is difficult to know exactly what may have been going on with friends or family who tell anecdotal stories about pregnancy. Many women have irregular cycles, and people can perform pregnancy tests incorrectly.

In your case, your negative tests and getting your period only means that you did not get pregnant that particular cycle. You still have a 15 percent chance of getting pregnant per year using withdrawal alone for contraception.

So in summary, your current symptoms cannot be due to pregnancy from your last cycle.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was helpful.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
