Are Epilepsy And Migraine Curable Diseases?

HELLO SIR, My daughter 14 years old have epilepsy and migrain as per doctor. She had faint twice 13/9/15 & 19/09/15 and after that she is taking Torleva (now the doze is torleva 500 twice daily). Now she has headache almost every day. and sometime it is noticed that she is feeling dizziness and stiffness in his jaw, back of the neck and forehead area with headache. doctor previously suggested topamac and Inderal LA 20 which she could not take. Now doctor has advised to take sodium valporate 200 twice daily with torleva. My question is i) is this kind of disease cureable, we do not have any family history of epilepsy ii) if she takes these 2 medicine together what side effect she gets now and in future. iii) within how many years she will be cured iv) how we can understand that she is cured.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Epilepsy and migraine are not curable diseases. However, they can be controlled well with intake of medications. There would be certain amount of side effects with the use of these medications, but the dosage can be reduced after some time depending on the response.
These medications need to be taken on a long term basis, probably lifelong.
However, when kept under control, these diseases would not cause any harm to the health.
Such people needs to be careful to avoid any form of stimulus which would precipitate the attack.
Kindly follow the instructions as given by your treating doctor and do the necessary follow-up as suggested.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
