Are Dietary Supplements Advisable When Diagnosed With Fatty Liver?

Sir, My Self Sayantan Sarkar. I have fatty liver or Gilbert Syndrome. And I also take the anti depression pills prescribed by doctor since 2005. I want to keep my self fit so i used to move gym and take the dietary supplements like whey protein, cretin and glutamine not toghther but different cycle....But few days before i have done a Liver function test and found SGPT and SGOT is 79 and 90 unit/liter. Sir, My question is because of having fatty liver should i stop taking those supplements??? And One more question is that Anabolic or Catabolic steroid of mild doses may I take??? Hello,

First thing I would mention that Gilbert syndrome and fatty liver are different things. Gilbert syndrome is a congenital partial deficiency of an enzyme and is of no clinical concern.

Regarding fatty liver, it's quite common, many people don't get any problem, however, it has been increasingly the cause of cirrhosis liver. So it's important to focus on it. Unfortunately, there is yet no specific drug for treatment of cirrhosis but weight loss, exercise, and food changes like more vegetables and fruits (fewer carbs) is the best thing that helps the fatty liver.

Yes, you should not take too much protein but up to 1 to 1.5 grams protein per kg per day is fine if you are using the gym. This is very important to avoid any type of steroids, as it worsens fatty liver but may also have many other problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
