Are Diarrhea, Vomiting, Body Aches, Chills, And Headache Symptoms Of Food Poisoning?

Hello, Thank you for your help. Two nights ago I had diarrhea and then went to sleep. Yesterday at work I felt okay but then last night I again had diarrhea, vomiting, body aches, chills, and a headache. Could this be food poisoning or a virus? Not sure which is more likely....

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,

Hope you are better now.

These are non specific symptoms which can be due to food poisoning, simple gastritis, urinary infection or any viral infection. According to the nature and consistency of stool and whether it has any blood or not, the diagnosis varies.

And also the kind of food you have taken, the place and whether others are also involved - all these are important in considering the food poisoning.

In Viral infection usual symptoms are fever, severe body pain, joint pain, decreased appetite, severe weakness etc.

In order to rule out these, a good history of the symptoms along with investigations including the stool examination is required.

So its good to involve your family physician early on to know the cause and for the treatment.

Hope I answered your query. If any further clarification required, please free to message me.
