General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Cough and straining increase the intraabdominal pressure (pressure inside the abdomen) and worsen the symptoms of a hernia. It is of very much importance in patients who have already undergone surgery.
Bronchodilators have to be started.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
