Are Constipation And Mucus In Stool Normal Symptoms Of Diverticulitis?

I am on being treated for diverticulitis since Monday 8/13 and on the antibiotic AMOX/K CLAV 875-125mg twice a day. I have not had a bowel movement in several days but have a mucas discharge and cannot leave my home and must be near a bathroom. How long can I expect these symptoms to last and is this normal with diverticulitis?

Hi,

Diverticulitis may present like a pain in the abdomen, blood with mucous in stools, fever, nausea, loose stools etc.

Confirm the diagnosis with CT abdomen and colonoscopy.

Also, check for other possibilities like bacillary dysentery or amoebic dysentery or hemorrhods or irritable bowel syndrome.

Avoid spicy food, alcohol, smoking and caffeine drinks.

Use tablet Ofloxacin and Ornidazole.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
