Are Antihistamines Safe To Be Taken While On Amoxicillin?

I am currently taking Amoxicillin 500 mg after having a tooth pulled, but I also have a cold that is keeping the right side of my nose stopped up and has prevented me from getting good, restorative sleep for two nights. I would like to take an to dry up the congestion, but wondered if there would be any reaction with the Amoxicillin. The pills I'd like to take are a store brand with the active ingredients of Acetaminophen 325 mg, Dextromethorphan HBr 10 mg, guaifenesin 200 mg, and Phenylephrine HCI 5 mg. Am I cleared to take this pill and will it help?

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and the symptoms of bad cold, nasal congestion is due to it..
As it is a viral infection it will resolve once the virus will complete its cycle in human body..

You can take Amoxicillin with these medications as it will not cause any serious drug interactions..

As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
-Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
-Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..
-Take cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin and cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan.
-Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
-Do steam inhalations..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
-Sip on warm water throughout the day..

Hopefully the symptoms will resolve within a week and if it worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
