Are Antibiotics Required After Nebulization With Budecort?

Hello doc, my son is having bad cough and fever from last 5 days. Initially a normal cough syrup was given by doc and started with antibiotics on 3rd day itself when it wasn t relieved. Fever persisted on 5th day, on n off.. Below 100. Now doc have started with nebulizer duolin n to continue with antibiotics . Last season when the same scene happened, doc prescribed nebulizer with budecort. My question is - antibiotics are required anymore if nebulization is done? Also how both respules are different in lay man language?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Antibiotics are only required if a there is a bacterial infection present. If the infection is due to a virus then antibiotics are not needed.

In most cases of cough and cold, the symptoms are due to a viral illness. With a history of persistent fever, then bacterial infection is sometimes suspected, this is the reason for the antibiotics

I hope this helps
