Are Metronidazole And Ceftriaxone Right Medication For Abdominal Abscess?

Patient was admitted for ruptured apendicitis 2 weeks ago. She was given metronidazole and ceftriaxone completed x 7 days. Cultures all negative. 2 weeks later admitted for intraabdominal abscess. Operated on.. She was given same antibiotics. Culture for the pus this time still showed no growth. Would it still be effective?

Hello Dear. Metronidazole and ceftriaxone are broad spectrum antibiotics and are right medications for any abscess. If cultures showed some specific organisms then the doctor could have decided some specific antibiotics against that organism. But anyways since the above mentioned antibiotics are broad spectrum ones, it will take care of the intra abdominal abscess.
